Cross-Cultural Humor at the Pub

One day, a Russian, an Englishman, and a Scot meet up in a pub.

This weekend marked our first real outing to a pub where we got to know some locals and chatted for nearly three hours. I discovered that to have such an experience, you simply need to venture to a place that’s a bit off the beaten path, ideally away from the busy road.

I absolutely love British humor! It’s often just one sentence long, with no direct insults, but it always includes a touch of dark humor or sarcasm. It's like honey—sweet and delightful!🤌

I mentioned that I’m looking for a job in marketing here, and the Englishman asked me:

  • Do you know any other languages?
  • Yeah... my native language.
  • Hmm, okay!
  • The one that nobody wants to speak anymore, you know.
  • Oh, I'm so glad you said it first.

He even reassured me that I definitely speak English better than his Scottish friend!

Then we started talking about my dog, whom I bought in Moscow. It turns out she’s an English Toy Spaniel, so we’ve brought her back to her homeland. He smiled and said:

  • Hah, she’s a double agent then!
  • I laughed
  • I'm SO glad you laughed at this joke!
