Discovering St Albans Charm
St Albans
This is where my husband and I started exploring the nearby cities to London, dreaming of the day we might buy our own place in the UK.
With a population of around 148,000, it's slightly larger than Dolgoprudny. In the 5th century AD, there was an ancient town called Verulamium here, and you often stumble upon Roman ruins. The city is incredibly clean compared to London and has a vibrant young crowd. It's charming, small, and cozy.
We found ourselves waiting about 40 minutes for a table at all the top breakfast spots, but we still enjoyed a delicious meal at Bill’s. I ordered the most delightful and ingenious Garden Breakfast—almost like an English breakfast, but without the sausages and bacon, which I don't like.
We also stumbled upon a lovely little bookstore called Book on the Hill. The first thing that catches your eye is the three enormous dog beds in the store. The owner used to have three dogs that accompanied her to work.
But the main impression of St Albans deserves a separate post!
