DIY Mosaic Vase Project Progress
New DIY Project | Part 1
I realized I wouldn't be able to finish my project before leaving, so I decided to share the current progress!
I've wanted to do something with mosaic tiles and grout for a long time, and I thought starting with something small, like a vase, would be perfect. Unfortunately, the selection of tiles on Amazon wasn't very impressive, but I did find a small mirrored one!
I had a specific shape in mind for the vase, and the tile I found influenced the dimensions a bit, so I had to work around that. That's when I remembered that my husband's colleague has a 3D printer...
Nikita and I spent almost a week just working on the model, and we even had a prototype! During this process, another wild idea came to me: to print a kenzan to go with the vase. In the end, the flowers simply get stuck between the spikes, barely being pricked. But they stay up!
Cleaning the liquid nails off the tiles has not been a pleasant experience. Overall, this process will take about five hours. So far, I've only managed to clean one whole side.
The main challenge came unexpectedly. The tile turned out to be very thin, which meant I had to manually “cut” it out from the liquid nails for the grout to lay down nicely. The spacers actually made the situation worse, so I ended up abandoning them altogether and laid the mirrors by eye.
There’s still a lot of work ahead, but something beautiful is already starting to take shape.
By the way, since I’ve shown you all this in the middle of the process, let's decide together what color to make the grout!
