Exploring the Abandoned Tunnel Adventure

Hike in Bathe | Part 2

This time, we didn’t encounter any unusual birds! However, we did get a close look at a grey heron, which was quite a sight.

The canal ended, and we thought we had experienced the most interesting part of our route, but ahead of us lay a two-kilometer journey through a former railway tunnel! This tunnel was opened back in 1874, then abandoned, and finally reopened for pedestrians and cyclists in 2013.

Fun fact — during its time of disuse, the tunnel became home to colonies of bats, which posed a challenge before it could be reopened. Thankfully, the little critters were successfully relocated!

Lusya impressed us once again with her stamina, easily covering 20 kilometers in one day. On the train, she was snoring so loudly that people turned to look at us.

Just check out how the cat greets Lusya at home after not seeing her all day! 🥹
