Feeding Time with Pelicans at St. Jamess Park

The Pelicans of St. James's Park

Yesterday afternoon, we went to see the pelicans in St. James's Park and accidentally stumbled upon their feeding time!

I had only ever seen them from a distance before and could never quite understand why they were gathered right by the fence. It turns out they were waiting for their keeper with fish! Alongside them were some crafty cormorants and a heron.

Currently, there are six pelicans living in the park: Isla, Tiffany, Gargi, San, Moon, and Star. Interestingly, the first pelicans were gifted by a Russian ambassador way back in the 17th century.

The scene is quite entertaining— they’re fed every day around 2:30 PM near Duck Island Cottage. 🦩✨
