Halloween Traditions in a New Country

Our first Halloween in the country where it all began!

I was a bit surprised by how few houses were decorated—only a handful! On the other hand, almost all the shops, cafes, and florists were festively adorned. My favorites are in the first photo, a second-hand store right by our home.

Our building isn't decorated either, but we've come up with a wonderful alternative activity. If you're willing to welcome kids who come knocking for candy on the evening of the 31st, you can mark your apartment on a special board.

Of course, we’re participating! I'll share how we prepare later on.

As a true Russian, I thought it would be a good opportunity to give a nod to those neighbors who might not have been very friendly. So far, we don't have any like that, but I'm still trying to figure out where the guy lives who always ignores me in the elevator.

In the last photo are our pumpkins, which we light up in the evenings, turning them toward the window for the neighbors across the way. 🎃
