Mosaic Vase DIY Journey Begins
New DIY Project | Part 1
I realized I wouldn’t finish it before my trip, so I decided to share my progress!
I’ve wanted to do something with mosaic tiles and grout for a while now. I thought I’d start with something small, like a vase in this style. Unfortunately, the selection of tiles on Amazon is quite limited, but I did manage to find a small mirrored one!
I had a specific shape in mind for the vase, but the tile design influenced the dimensions, so I had to work around that. That’s when I remembered that my husband’s colleague has a 3D printer.
We (Nikita 😅) spent nearly a week just working on the model; we even created a prototype. During this time, another crazy idea struck me — to print a kenzan for the vase. In the end, the flowers get stuck between the spikes and hardly pierce them. But they stand!
Removing the liquid nails from the tile, which I used to attach it, is not a pleasant task. Overall, the process will take about five hours. So far, I’ve only managed to clean one side completely.
The biggest challenge came unexpectedly. The tile turned out to be very thin, so now I have to manually "cut" it out of the liquid nails to ensure the grout sets well. The spacers really complicated things; I ended up abandoning them completely and arranging the mirrors by eye.
In short, there’s still a lot of work ahead, but something beautiful is starting to take shape.
By the way, since I’ve shown you the project mid-process, let’s decide together what color to make the grout!
