Mosaic Vase DIY Journey Part One

New DIY Project | Part 1

I've realized that I won't finish my latest project before I leave, so I decided to share the current progress!

I've wanted to do something with mosaic tiles and grout for a long time, and I thought I would start with something small, like a vase in this style. Unfortunately, the selection of tiles on Amazon was quite limited, but I did manage to find a small mirrored one!

I had a specific shape in mind for the vase, and the size of the tiles dictated the dimensions, so I had to work around that. That's when I remembered that a colleague of my husband has a 3D printer...

We (well, mostly Nikita😅) spent nearly a week just making the prototype. During the process, I had another crazy idea—why not print a kenzan to go with the vase? In the end, the flowers just stick between the pins without actually piercing them. But they stay put!

Removing the construction adhesive from the tiles, which I used to attach them, is not a pleasant task. Overall, this process is going to take about five hours. So far, I've only managed to clean one side completely...

The biggest challenge came from an unexpected source. The tiles turned out to be very thin, so now I have to manually "cut" them from the adhesive to ensure the grout sits well. The spacers really complicated things, so I ended up abandoning them and placing the tiles by eye instead.

There’s still a lot to do, but something beautiful is already starting to take shape.

By the way, since I’ve shared all this mid-process, let’s decide together what color the grout should be!
