Mosaic Vase DIY Project Progress

New DIY Project | Part 1

I realized I wouldn’t be able to finish my project before heading out, so I decided to share my progress!

I've wanted to work with mosaic tiles and grout for a while, and I thought I'd start with something small, like a vase in this style. Unfortunately, the selection of tiles on Amazon is quite limited, but I did find a small mirror tile!

I had a specific shape in mind for the vase, and the tiles also dictated the dimensions, so I had to work around that. Then it hit me that my husband's colleague has a 3D printer…

We (Nikita😅) spent almost a week just creating a model, and we even ended up with a prototype. During the process, another crazy idea came up — to print a kenzan for this vase. In the end, the flowers just get stuck between the spikes and barely need to be pierced. But they stay put!

Cleaning the liquid nails I used to attach the tiles has been quite the task. Altogether, I estimate this process will take about 5 hours. So far, I've only managed to clean one entire side…

The main challenge came from an unexpected source. The tiles turned out to be very thin, so I now have to carefully "cut" them out from the liquid nails to ensure the grout applies evenly. The spacers really complicated things, and I ultimately decided to ditch them and just place the mirror tiles by eye.

There’s still a lot of work ahead, but something beautiful is starting to take shape.

By the way, since I've shown you my process midway, let’s decide together what color we should make the grout!
