Rediscovering My Creative Career Path
New Thoughts About Work | Part 2
I've started asking myself more questions. What did I love most about my job? Where did I once apply but didn’t get hired, even though I really wanted to? In which environments did I feel the most comfortable?
What I loved most about my work was the creative aspect. The traditional PR work with media and articles didn’t excite me at all. I enjoyed coming up with slogans and concepts for campaigns, collaborating with designers to generate visuals, curating the contents of gift boxes, and crafting the text for advertising integrations in podcasts, among other things.
As for the second question, I unearthed a part of my life where my dream was to work at a creative agency, directly involved in the creative process, ideally at BBDO or Leo Burnett. I once interviewed at Ernst & Young in Russia, but unfortunately, I didn’t get the job.
Where did I feel most comfortable? My first job was indeed at a creative branding agency. I loved the agency atmosphere! However, I was in an account management role, which meant I interacted more with clients and managed processes rather than being hands-on in the creative work. I envied those who got to engage more in the creative side! At that time, there wasn’t an opportunity to change tracks within the agency, so I eventually transitioned into PR.
So, there you have it—an honest answer to my questions! I’m not sure if, down the line, I'll realize that I genuinely want to become a veterinarian (I sincerely hope not), but after this internal dialogue with myself (and with my husband, mom, sister, and friends, haha), I felt a sense of clarity as if I finally saw the right path ahead.
Last week, I compiled a list of 60 London agencies. Now, I just need to refine my resume and portfolio with a focus on this new direction and formulate my message. As it stands, it feels like I’m just a passionate, responsible, budding creative looking for an internship—please hire me!
